Easy Bedroom Decorating Ideas
A friend of mine is re-doing the upper level of her home. She lives in a two story home. The lower level consists of a great room, kitchen, formal dining area, informal dining area and a family room. There is also a half bath and laundry room. The upper level has a master bedroom and bath as well as two other bedrooms and full bathroom. Her children are now getting older so she wants to update their bedroom areas. She asked me to go shopping with her to get some bedroom decorating ideas. She has some basic designs in mind, but she needs to do this on a shoe string budget.
The two bedrooms are quite small. Her son is eleven years old and her daughter is nine. They are both at the age where they want to have friends stay overnight. She wants to be able to accommodate this in the bedroom decorating ideas. There is a basement level to the home where she has set up a computer area for the children to do there home work. There is a small living room area down there also, so the children could have overnight guests in that area. She could place a sofa bed or futon in the area. Her concern is that the area is damp in the spring and fall, so it is not very inviting.
We went shopping to a large store that specializes in sturdy lost cost furniture for starter homes as well as children’s furniture. The cost is kept down because the furniture needs to be assembled, and the store does not offer delivery. My friend is a widow so she was concerned about the assembly process, but my husband assured her that he would help her put the pieces together if she found something she liked. Her son has many interests yet he has very simple needs. She wants the bedroom decorating ideas to be very simple in his room to keep the space as functional as possible. We found a bed frame that had built in drawers. The drawers were deep and wide and could hold all of his folded items. She could then eliminate the need for a dresser in his room and allow him space for his own desk. She found a jewel toned quilt for the bed. She bought a deep beige paint for the walls and a small armed chair for him to sit in to read.
The bedroom decorating ideas for her daughter were a bit more complicated because her daughter is very outgoing and very feminine. We found a trundle bed for her room. We also found a white eyelet ruffled bed spread. We bought many bright colored fabrics to make pillows for her room. We decided on white paint for the walls to make the room appear bigger. By using simple bedroom decorating ideas my friend is creating spaces that will mature with her children, without costing a great deal of money.
